Buddhism is recognized today as a universal religion throughout the world. Its significant contribution to society has become increasingly more important towards, establish lasting peace, which is badly needed in today’s modern world. The theme of the celebration: “The Buddhist Contribution to Good Governance and Development”, is an every relevant subject. We need to find urgent and effective solutions to eradicate ethnic and religious conflict, violence, intolerance, poverty, social injustice, and to establish harmonious societies.

The Enlightened One, the Buddha, as the founder of this noble religion addressed his message of selfless service with boundless compassion not only to kings, princes and nobles, but also to the poor, lowly and needy. He revolted against all kinds of human discrimination and sought to establish social justice, democracy and freedom as rights for all human beings. He declared the road of spiritual development open to all. Anyone, in every condition of life could achieve perfection.

The Buddha advised the universal monarch how to govern a state, perfectly, and with religious tolerance when peace was threatened. Social and spiritual progress are equally encourage in Buddhism; and even though, the Buddha did not show an interest in politics, he admitted that the republican form of Government was an ideal model state of establish good governance and development.

Therefore, He strongly believes that Buddhist leaders around the world who will gather in the Kingdom of Thailand during the four days of celebrations will discuss the theme and find better solutions to establish human security and sustainable peace.
