 His Majesty the King‘s philosophy on Sufficiency Economy is cited as example of the Buddhist teaching of the Middle Path.
Thailand will hold the Fourth International Buddhist Conference on the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations in 2007 in honour of the 80th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The resolution follows the 4-day successful arrangement of the third International Buddhist Conference supported by the Thai Government and the Supreme Sangha Council of Thailand, which was concluded yesterday at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.
The just concluded meeting agreed to promote dharmic societies through the emphasis of the central role of inner peace development. More Buddhist meditation centres will be set up throughout the world while an e-library will be established as the central repository of Buddhist content in electronic medium, initially as a partnership between Buddha Dharma Education and BuddhaNet and Mahachulalonkornrajavidyalaya University in Bangkok.
The meeting agreed to encourage a holistic approach to sustainable development, based on the Buddhist central teaching of the Middle Way, which is exemplified in the philosophy of “Sufficiency Economy” initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.
The 3rd International Buddhist Conference on the UN Day of Vesak was participated by about 1,500 Buddhist leaders, monks and scholars from 45 countries. After the conclusion of the meeting, the participants proceeded to the Buddhamonthon Centre in Nakhon Pathom Province to join in a candle-lit procession already attended by about 7,000 Buddhist monks and laymen, to mark the UN Day of Vesak.
Today, foreign participants in the 3rd International Buddhist Conference from 45 countries are going on sight-seeing trips to various places of religious and cultural importance in and around Bangkok.At Sanam Luang, the Buddhism Promotion Week continues with many activities such as religious chanting, sermons, meditation and ceremonies to worship a Buddhist relic.
